Job Vacancy: Electronics Engineer

We are looking for a multiskilled electronics engineer with experience in circuit design, electrical wiring, and troubleshooting to join the small team at S & C Thermofluids to manage and maintain the electrical rig components.

The experimental facilities range from small-scale compressed air systems and liquid flow rigs to full-scale aerospace jet engines such as the Adour Mk104. The company designs and builds test rigs which are fitted to the flow supply and data is gathered on their aerothermal performance. As such there is a large amount of test, logging and control equipment which needs to be maintained and developed. In addition the sites themselves require a level of management in terms of electrical maintenance and spare control.

It is important to note that the requirements of the company for the person filling this role are varied. The ideal candidate will be flexible and keen to learn new skills in a wide range of practical areas.

Successful candidates would become involved in work across the range of experimental activities, although a direct knowledge of aero engines is not expected.

Qualified candidates will be able to display strong troubleshooting and problem solving skills in a laboratory or test house environment, and strong mechanical, electronics and AV skills. Candidates must be able to work independently and manage their own tasks while adhering to deadlines. The candidate would also be expected to get involved in the practical side of the operation of the equipment – i.e. assembly and test.

Duties to include, not exclusively:

•      Maintaining existing analogue engine control panels including throttle control systems – ability to troubleshoot malfunctions
•      Maintaining existing data logging hardware
•      Maintaining existing fuel pumps
•      Designing, ordering parts and building control panels for engine rigs and other projects
•      Installing, maintaining and calibrating electronic test equipment on test rigs, including transducers, thermocouples, flowmeters
•      Reading wiring diagrams and engineering drawings
•      Management of laboratory sites and equipment including emergency lighting, door interlocks
•      Working to quality management system ISO 9001

Skills and attributes

ESSENTIAL
•      Relevant electronics qualification; BSc or equivalent
•      Ability to multi-task and apply knowledge to new environments
•      Experience with low-voltage systems
•      Ability to work independently
•      Must be mechanically inclined; able to use hand tools, perform manual assembly
•      Proficiency in Microsoft Visio
•      Basic computer skills: MS Word, Excel, Access
•      Good timekeeping
•      Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation

Skills and attributes

DESIRABLE
•      Laboratory or test house experience
•      Portable Appliance Testing experience/qualification
•      Working knowledge of ATEX regulations
•      Experience with high-voltage systems
•      Interest in aerospace
•      Design, installation, maintenance and repair of mains and three phase electrical systems
•      Interest in aerospace

Location: Based either at the Head Office in Bath, or the Cirencester test site - although travel to both will be necessary

Duration: Full-time, 3 month trial period with the potential for a permanent contract.

Hours: Flexible work hours possible totalling 37.5 hour week, around a core period of 10am-4pm daily

Salary: competitive, dependent upon experience and current pay levels.
