Carbon Dioxide Scrubber

Co-flowing or Counter-current Flowing Multi-Chamber Box Scrubbers

This product was developed to produce a gas scrubber that could be installed in a compact space, following a project which assessed the viability of removing carbon dioxide by scrubbing with seawater in a submersible habitat in which there was no space for tall columns to be installed. There is also the added benefit that you can also increase the scrubbing efficiency by increasing the driving force with fresh liquid feed.

  • 35 litres of 1/8" Dixon rings, packed to 170mm
  • 9 litres of 1/4" Dixon rings, positioned at top (15mm layer) and at base over mesh support (20mm layer)

Currently two designs exist:

MCB-50-3D

  • External Perspex structure with 3 chambers, 133 x 484 mm each
  • 3 liquid feed nozzles per chamber

MCB-50-6D

  • External Perspex structure with 6 chambers, 133 x 238 mm each
  • 1 liquid feed nozzle per chamber

Single Chamber Demonstration Unit, SCB-10D.

This unit evolved from a need to illustrate how the compact multi-chamber-box-scrubber concept worked for the removal of carbon dioxide with seawater. The unit can be run with either re-circulating or once-through liquid flow.

FEATURES

  • An external Perspex structure with 133 x 133mm cross-sectional area
  • 2 litres of 1/8" Dixon rings, which act as packing in the chamber
  • 0.5 litres of 1/4" Dixon rings, positioned at top (15mm layer) and at base over mesh support (20mm layer)
  • water is distributed across the packing and flows to the base

Download the pdf technical brochure for the single-chamber unit here.

The Demonstration Units are custom made, so the specification may vary slightly depending on the availability of the sub-components used.
